Explosions in Tianjin: over 100 dead, fears of chemical pollution – L’Express

The balance sheet continues to mount. The number of victims of explosions Wednesday in Tianjin Port is now 112 dead, including 21 firefighters authorities said Sunday. Among the bodies recovered, 88 have still not been identified.

Another concern, fear of contamination after the “spread of toxic substances” that prompted the Chinese authorities to make Saturday the evacuation of residential areas within three kilometers of the site of the explosion.



The authorities ensure that there is no danger

According to Beijing News , armed police began evacuating the population after the discovery of sodium cyanide site, three days after the deadly gigantic explosions that caused fires.

However, the authorities argued that the products that were left in the environment had not reached dangerous levels. But they struggle to accurately identify chemicals stored on the site, which does not free from skepticism and concern among the 15 million people of Tianjin. Relatives of residents and victims attacked the authorities they accuse keep them in the dark about the scale of the disaster.
