Greece blows hot and cold on repayments – Challenges.fr

Fry on government online or deliberate muddying the waters? Still, the interior minister and his counterpart at Finance, the highly publicized Yanis Varoufakis, multiplied the contradictory statements Sunday on the repayment of its debts.

For the first, Nikos Voutsis, “The repayments to the IMF in June were 1.6 billion euros, they will not be made and Besides, there is no money to do it, “he told the television station Mega Channel.

No spokesman for Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was reached for comment on the remarks.

“Significant progress” for Varoufakis

statements contradicted, in the process, the Minister of Finance, Yanis Varoufakis, first in line on this issue.

Indeed, the latter stressed that Greece has made “a huge step” in the negotiation of an agreement with its international creditors to avoid bankruptcy, adding that it would be “catastrophic” for his country leaving the euro area.

“It is now up to institutions to do their part. We have joined three quarters of the way, they must join us on a quarter of the way,” the minister said during a broadcast on the BBC.

Yanis Varoufakis felt it would be “catastrophic” for Greece to leave the euro. It would be, he has said, “the beginning of the end of the project of a common currency”.
