Greece: Eurozone has no right not to reach an agreement

Riga – The eurozone and Greece do not have the right not to reach an agreement has said Friday the Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, however, recognizing the difficulties of both parties to move forward after an intense meeting.

As Europeans, we do not have the right not to reach an agreement, the Minister said , under pressure from his counterparts to accelerate the ongoing discussions on the reform agenda that Athens has pledged to present. Depends on the payment to the country of vital $ 7.2 billion.

The Greek minister acknowledged that negotiations drag. But that’s because we do not want to make commitments we could not keep (…) that the Greeks can not fully support.

Faced with partners who have expressed concerns, he took advantage of an incredible convergence in recent weeks between Greece and its creditors.

We are all agreed the need to accelerate the process, he said. But he rejected the idea of a return to the previous model of the discussions in Athens by a delegation, called troika creditor institutions (EU, IMF, ECB).

The idea that everything would quickly if we go back to the troika is unfounded, Brussels is an ideal place to conduct political talks, he launched at a press conference.

The new radical left Greek government has got its partners to bury the troika, the benefit of discussions both at the political level in Brussels and Athens technically.

This process must be made more effective had earlier stressed the head of the euro zone, Jeroen Dijsselbloem.

Mr. Varoufakis then admitted to Greek journalists have faced intense atmosphere at the meeting, accused by his peers not to submit concrete proposals.

Ministers have said this reason, a-t- he said. But he mostly blamed a partitioning of discussions arising from the rules of the euro zone, which prevents a reasoned negotiation procedure.

I want to talk to Europe, but I do not know who to call, I talk to one who agrees but tells me to talk to the other and so on, a- he insisted.

He was however sure that eventually a solution will be found because the cost of a non-solution would be huge. This is not a threat but a finding that all share, he said.
