Unemployment: "I expect a bad check" (Rebsamen) – The Tribune.fr

“I expect a bad balance sheet,” has launched incredulously François Rebsamen, Minister of Labour, the Journal du Dimanche. This warning says a lot about the government’s expectations for the unemployment figures to be published on Tuesday evening and will take stock of 2014.

Although a good surprise was to appear in December, we already know that 2014 was disastrous for employment. In November, the unemployment rate reached a record high with 3.49 million people.

François Rebsamen wants nonetheless optimistic thanks to the rise of responsibility pact he expects the first effect in 2015. It is also based on projections Unedic “less bad than before” . By “less bad” is meant that the unemployment insurance manager anticipates fewer job losses than before.



Insufficient growth

Unedic expects 104,000 new registrations this year against 182,000 last year. In other words, the government is far from reversing the unemployment curve. Moreover, economists are almost agree that unemployment will drop significantly only from 1.5% GDP growth. Now the government hopes to 1% this year.
