The ECB has removed 20 ME fake traffic tickets to the 2nd … – Boursier.com

(Boursier.com) – If the European Central Bank decided to walk the plank with the note ‘QE’ Draghi, others did not skimp for printing counterfeit money in 2014. The year was rich in the matter! In the second half alone, the ECB has withdrawn from circulation counterfeit notes 507,000 (331,000 in H1 2014). They mark an increase of 43.6% of seizures compared to the second half of 2013 (+ 53.2% sequential growth). Over the period, the amount of loss is about 19.7 million euros, mainly in denominations of 20 euros and 50 euros.

Tickets 20 euros and 50 are the most frequently counterfeited values. Tickets € 20 accounted for 60% of counterfeits of the 2nd half of 2014, well ahead of the cuts of 50 euros (26% of seized notes). In total, these two values ​​weigh 86% of counterfeit volumes. In contrast value, the two cuts represent amounts almost equivalent losses with 6.08 ME cutoff of 20 euros and 6.6 ME 50 euro banknotes. The 100-euro notes, where vigilance is often increased with use, 8% of counterfeits but still 4 ME face value.

The ECB wants to reassure … The number of counterfeits is still limited in relation to the € 17.5 billion of notes in circulation late 2014. The counterfeits do not find themselves out of scope European trading, the dollar remains king internationally. Thus, 97.5% of the counterfeit notes were seized in the countries of the euro area. Only 2% were detected in the Member States of the European Union do not belong to the euro area, and less than 0.5% in other regions. The € 20 banknote being the most counterfeited and after the new $ 10 euros in Europe series launched in September 2014, the ECB put into service on 24 February, the new € 20 banknote with enhanced security technical elements.
