After Patrick Vieira, another French ex-footballer is in the sights of the taxman. The former defender Marcel Desailly is indeed under investigation by the French tax authorities who sought included whether concealed or not money in Switzerland.

According to an official notice published Tuesday August 19 in Bern in the Federal Gazette, the French tax authorities requested Switzerland to provide information on possible fund Marcel Desailly, who has or had money in the bank helvète UBS. An “administrative assistance” granted by the Federal Tax Administration (FTA).

The official note states that the 1998 world champion, who is now 45, may appeal that decision through an appeal to be filed within 30 days before the Federal Administrative Court.

Two other former French players, Patrick Vieira and Claude Makelele, had already been there similar tax procedures a few months ago. They too had placed the assets at UBS.

These requests were made under Swiss law and the Convention on the International Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters, signed in October 2013 by Switzerland. Local authorities and cooperate with their European counterparts to combat fraud and tax evasion but also to prevent taxpayers double taxation with respect to taxes on income and on capital.
